Overnight Homicide in Eight Mile Going Straight to Grand Jury

One man is dead after an overnight shooting in Eight Mile, and Mobile County Sheriff’s detectives say no one has been arrested.

Detective Michael Golson said 38-year-old Steven Bell shot 20-year-old Trenholm Rice after spotting him drive by in a car he had reported stolen. Golson said Bell called 911 but followed Rice down Highway 45 to South Street where Rice allegedly got out of the car and approached Bell with a weapon in hand. That’s when Bell pulled out a gun of his own and shot Rice, who eventually died of his injuries.

MCSO has already spoken with a representative from the Mobile County District Attorney’s office who has decided to send the case to a Grand Jury for review to determine if the case should move forward or if this was an instance of self-defense.
