Tourists soak up every bit of sun on Northwest Florida beaches ahead of Alberto

DESTIN, Fla. (WKRG) - Tourists in Northwest Florida are trying to soak up all the sun they can ahead of Alberto.

Tyson Rivet and his family rented a house in Destin and did not expect this weather.

"We're just having fun like we normally would," Rivet said. "We might have to stay inside a little bit but we make the most of it."

Back at Pensacola Beach, homeowners like Mabry Dozier are not taking any chances.

"I'm expecting there to be a lot of rain," Dozier said. "I'm putting stuff up on our deck and bringing stuff inside and securing things with bungee cords."

In Destin, one group on a family reunion says Alberto has put a damper on their plans.

"You expect the kids to be out at the pool and going to the beach," Jose Guzman said. "You really can't go with this weather anymore."

Okaloosa County officials have opened a shelter at Davidson Middle School in Crestview.
