Pensacola police search for shooters, NAACP calls for end to violence

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) - Police are not letting up in their search for the suspects after dozens of bullets went flying Wednesday night on Strong Street.

"We had at least three people shooting at the same time," Pensacola Police Public Information Officer Mike Wood said.

Police say between 30 and 40 gunshots rang out on Strong Street between E and F streets Wednesday night.

"Our investigators are rounding up witnesses and talking to them," Wood said. "There's also the possibility of video in the area so they're going to go through that video if we're able to get that."

Two men driving side by side started firing along with someone standing near the intersection of E and Strong. A bullet hit someone in the shoulder at the basketball court outside the Fricker Center nearby.

The Pensacola NAACP gathered on the court Thursday and they're calling for an end to the violence and for the city leaders to have a deeper connection with the community.

"I want to make a plea to the people of Pensacola, stop the violence, stop the hate," NAACP Pensacola 2nd VP Ellison Bennett said.

Police are being aggressive in this investigation to make sure all suspects are arrested.

"We're not going to slow down," Wood said. "There will be a heavy police presence in the Attucks Court area and possibly other areas of Pensacola as this investigation progresses."

The gunshot victim is not being cooperative but his injuries are non-life threatening.

If you have any information that can help police, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at (850) 433-STOP. They only need your information and not your name.
