JACKSON, Ala. (WKRG) – According to court documents filed in Clarke County, a baby was believed to be approximately 5 days old when Jalesa Gaines wrapped the child in a sweater and placed his body in a box in the trunk of her car.

Jackson Police Chief Jerry Taylor told News 5 on Tuesday that his department is still waiting on test results from the Department of Forensic Sciences in Mobile to determine the cause of death. Taylor hopes to have those results this week.

Jalesa Gaines is charged with abuse of a corpse after the body of the baby boy was discovered in the trunk of her car during a traffic stop on November 14.
