Waffle House Hero raises $230K for victims

CNN - Perhaps the word "hero" isn't strong enough for James Shaw Junior.

Hours after Shaw grabbed a rifle from Travis Reinking, the man who police say killed four people at a Tennessee Waffle House, Shaw started a fundraiser for families of the victims.

As of Tuesday morning, the total raised on the GoFundMe account is more than $229,000.  His goal was $15,000.

The account closes on May 13th and after that, Shaw said the Nashville Office of Financial Services Firm UBS will distribute the money to the victims and their families.

Shaw was inside the restaurant when Reinking started shooting. He ambushed Reinking, who left the scene and was eventually captured.

Meanwhile, another GoFundMe account created by a New York resident was created to help Shaw and his four-year-old daughter.

That amount as of Tuesday morning is over $219,000. The man who started the campaign, Yashar Ali, says, "I normally don't get involved directly in these matters, but James' grace has inspired me to start this page to give him the support I feel he deserves."
