UPDATE 3:45PM Monday, Sept 25, 2017: Mobile Police Chief Lawrence Battiste, says that they are investigating the shooting involving a 3-year-old over the weekend as an accidental shooting.
Chief Battiste says there were multiple kids in the home ranging from 3 to13 years old under the supervision of a 15-year-old. No adults were present in the house at the time of the shooting. He says it is still too early in the investigation to charge anyone in the shooting.
The 3-year-old girl is conscious and alert and is currently listed in stable condition.
The Department of Human Resources is actively involved in the investigation.
Cheif Battiste urges the community that if you have a weapon, be responsible and keep it properly secured.
UPDATE 10:30 a.m. Saturday Sept. 23, 2017
Officer Wallace, spokesperson for the MPD, says, a 3-year old girl was shot with a handgun sometime before 9:21 a.m. The girl was taken to the hospital, but her condition is unknown at this time.
Wallace says, “there was a patrolling officer in the area and was flagged down by an individual claiming a three-year old girl had been shot. The officer went to the apartment and located a female who was being carried outside of the apartment.” He says the girl sustained one gun shot wound.
Mobile Police are still investigating the shooting.
