MPD identifies 21-year-old killed in shooting on Lafayette Street

Mobile Police have identified the 21-year-old shot and killed Wednesday on N. Lafayette Street.

The victim is Carey Wheat, 21, of Mobile. 

The shooting was one of four in recent days in Mobile County.  Six people were shot, with one deceased and two in critical condition.

The search for suspects continues, News 5 is told. 

UPDATE 5:15 p.m.: Mobile police say the man who died was 21-years-old. 

UPDATE 1:14 pm: Police say it’s to early to determine if Wednesday’s deadly shooting is connected to the other shootings in Mobile, several that have happened since late Tuesday night. 

UPDATE 12:29 pm : Police confirm that two people were shot, one is dead. Both victims are male. 

ORIGINAL STORY:

A large police presence at MLK and N. Lafayette in Mobile involves a shooting. This is the latest in string of shootings in Mobile since late Tuesday night.

A witness on the scene says two brothers have been shot, but police have not released any official information yet.
