Officials with the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office say more people will be charged in connection with the shooting death of 19-year-old Kevin Benjamin. Benjamin was killed on April 30 on North Drive off Dauphin Island Parkway.

Brandon Sims was arrested Sunday and charged with felony murder. Prosecutors say the initial motive was robbery. Sims conspired with two other people to rob Benjamin of marijuana and during the robbery, shots were fired, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors say charges are pending against the other two people believed to be involved.

“We expect them to be identified and prosecuted very, very soon,” said Assistant District Attorney Keith Blackwood.

Investigators believe Sims fled to New Orleans after the murder. That’s where they found his cell phone.

Sims was given a $150,000 bond. If he makes bond, he will have to wear an ankle monitor. Prosecutors believe he could be a flight risk.
