Mobile Police Media Day Teaches Use of Deadly Force

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) – Police officers make split-second decisions every day in order to keep the community safe. On Friday Mobile Police invited members of the media for a behind-the-scenes look at their training.

Chief Lawrence Battiste says the department is committed to training its officers. Mobile Police officers go through 40 hours of training every year while the state mandate is 10.

Police conducted SWAT team demonstrations and let media members practice on the firing range.

Media members were also shown a deadly force training exercise. It’s a computer activated program that responds to your commands. Police officers use it to train on when to use deadly force. They go through the training often and can look back on the video to see what they could have done differently.

Watch News 5 at 5 p.m. to watch Katarina Luketich go through the exercise.
