Friends remember the life of man killed in Mississippi road rage shooting

Irvington, AL (WKRG) - Friends, family, and people that loved him are remembering the life of Leland Sumrall.  He was also known as “Kisser” to his friends.  They say the name came from an old CB radio handle.  Sumrall was shot to death in what authorities describe as a road rage shooting in Pascagoula, Mississippi last Thursday night.  Friends say he loved motorcycles but he loved aviation even more.  He lived at a home around the grounds of Roy E. Ray Airport in Irvington.  Friends tell us there isn't a single aircraft in the neighborhood he didn’t have a hand in helping with.  They describe him as a big man with a big heart.

"He was always eager to help people and he expected nothing in return.  For our community he was always eager to lend a helping hand to work on an aircraft, restoration, he was really excited about anything to do with airplanes," said a friend of more than 20 years Bill Ross.    Friends and family are still working on a tribute to his life.  They’re planning a motorcycle ride that will conclude with flight, ending with his ashes being spread over the runway at the airport.

The man accused of shooting Sumrall to death last week is Luis Soto Jr.  Jail records indicate the 21-year-old is still in police custody in Pascagoula. Records indicate he’s being held on $1.5 million dollars bond.
