Driver killed in fiery tanker crash identified


The driver has been identified as Marvin McGee, 65, of Sweeny, TX



MOBILE, Ala. - UPDATE 10:00 p.m. 

Mobile police have confirmed the driver was killed in a massive tanker fire on I-10 eastbound.


UPDATE 1:30 p.m.

According to a spokesperson with Mobile Police, investigators say the driver is not yet accounted for. Police say the tanker was the only vehicle involved in the accident. Due to the extent of the fire damage, police have not determined the company of the tanker. 

The Virginia Street on and off-ramps are closed until further notice. 

An investigation into the accident is still ongoing. ALDOT employees are assessing any possible damage to the roadway.

Mobile Fire-Rescue Department companies are currently on scene of an overturned commercial vehicle, fully involved on I-10E at the Virginia Street off-ramp. The tanker is confirmed to have been hauling an unknown amount of oil. No word on how the tanker overturned, but an investigation is pending. Additional updates will be provided as received.



An overturned tanker truck has caused a massive fire on I-10 eastbound near Texas and Canal Streets. 

This is near exit 25 near Virginia street. 

Witnesses tell News 5's Alan Sealls the tanker rolled off the interstate in a fiery crash.
