A helicopter tour of some of the changes taking place in the City of Mobile. We explored the new Airbus sight at Brookley Field.
Almost completed, Airbus will begin producing A320 passenger airplanes in the U.S. later this year. It’s the company’s first assembly plant in the United States, meant to compete head on with Boeing.
Airbus calls this a Final Assembly Line (FAL). That means the already fabricated parts will arrive via ship and put together in the giant hanger. Once completed, the aircraft will be painted with the customer airline’s colors and logos.
It then moves to the Delivery Center where final testing, a first test flight, and delivery to the customer airline will take place.
The first A320 is slated for Jet Blue Airline. It is set to be delivered in the 2nd quarter of 2016.
