MOBILE, AL (WKRG) — We’ve heard from just about everyone ahead of the upcoming presidential election. The middle class, the working class, political pundits, pollsters, undecided voters and others have all had their say.
So we thought: what about kids?
With a lot of the election narrative getting a bit stale in recent weeks, we decided to put a marker in the hands of middle school students in Mobile County. They were given one task: write a single word about Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
That set the stage for a social experiment with wildly unpredictable results. As the saying goes, “kids say the darndest things,” and did they ever.
Kids rushed to the two poster boards at the Mobile Civic Center, as part of the Worlds of Opportunity Career Expo. The excitement over expressing their political opinions was far greater than what we were expecting.
In ninety minutes, nearly 400 children — ages ranging from 11 to 14 — participated in our poster board study. Here are the results:
