MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Board of Mobile Area Water & Sewer on Friday approved rate increases for the next two years.
The increases amount to about 5 percent each year and are needed to fund the repair and replacement of aging infrastructure, MAWSS said.
According to MAWSS officials, the repairs will help keep drinking water safe, prevent sewer overflows, maintain customer service levels and meet regulatory requirements that better protect public health and the environment.
Customers will see an average increase of $2.25 per month in 2018.
MAWSS said the increases were recommended by an outside cost of service study and reflect the cost of providing water and sewer service.
