MOBILE, AL (WKRG) — A man booked into Mobile Metro Jail early Friday morning is facing a murder charge and four counts of attempted murder.
20-year-old Christopher Johnson is expected in court Monday, December 4 for an arraignment hearing according to Mobile County Assistant District Attorney Keith Blackwood. Blackwood says Johnson’s preliminary hearing will be sometime next week.
Johnson is the suspect in the shooting death of Dortez Major Senior.
Major was shot and killed on November 26 2017 near Thomas and Magee Streets in Prichard.
Major’s son, Dortez Major Junior, was wounded in the shooting. He was shot twice in the leg and had to undergo surgery. His mother tells News 5 he is recovering and doing okay.
The pregnant girlfriend of Major was also in the vehicle at the time of the shooting and was hurt. An 18-month-old child was in the vehicle as well.
Blackwood says Johnson used an assault rifle and believed Johnson knew the female in the car is pregnant, “He placed her and everybody else in that car in the line of fire. And that’s why he’s charged with murder and four counts of attempted murder.”
Johnson is also charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle and illegal possession of a firearm.
According to police, the shooting stemmed from an argument that started in a Mobile nightclub last week.
