Local republican delegates are getting ready to make the trip to Cleveland, Ohio for the Republican National Convention next week.
This is Judy Motlow’s first RNC, but she says she’s been involved in politics for some time.
“It should be fun, but of course, I’m a little apprehensive because there are going to be protestors,” Motlow said. “But, I heard there’s going to be lots of security, and they’re going to bus us back and forth to the convention.”
Motlow is technically a Ted Cruz delegate but says after the first round of ballots she will fully support Donald Trump.
“I will step up and vote for Donald Trump because he’s the choice of the Republican Party, and anything’s better than Hillary Clinton,” Motlow said.
Her flight leaves on Saturday.
Alabama Republican Chair Terry Lathan is already in Cleveland and spoke to us on Facetime.
“We just finished with the Republican National Committee meeting, so that’s over with. It went very smoothly. I know a lot of people were hoping there’d be fireworks. There’s simply not,” Lathan said.
With Donald Trump yet to announce his running mate, Lathan said there’s a lot of speculation of who it will be.
” I hear Jeff Sessions’ name a lot and that’s from people across the Republican National Committee, not justAlabamaa folks. We hear Governor Pence’s name. We hear New Gingrich, and basically, none of us know,” Lathan.
Lathan predicts there will be an announcement within the next 72 hours.
