A local author has written a book about former Alabama Governor George Wallace entitled: ‘George Wallace-An Enigma’.

Mary Palmer was at Barnes&Noble on the eastern shore Saturday morning signing copies of her books.

Palmer interviewed Wallace before he died in 1998. The book is a biography, and Palmer says in it, there are many things people don’t know about Wallace.

She said for one, he apologized later in life for his racist views during his political career.

“Nobody’s perfect and while he had his faults, when you do apologize, that’s hard to do. And I think that’s harder for men than women. I may get in trouble for saying that, but I think it’s easier for women sometimes. And I think that’s noble when you can do that and it shows a true sincerity,” says Palmer.

Palmer also says Wallace was very charismatic and enjoyed the thrill of running for office.
