Holiday Homecoming for Servicemembers

News

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — It was an afternoon of heartfelt reunions in Mobile Wednesday. A number of servicemen and women came back home for the holidays.

Most will only be on leave for a few weeks, but for their families, it’s the best Christmas present they could receive.

“It feels really good. It’s been way too long,” said Naomi Younce, who is stationed in Texas.

It was the first trip home for Dakota Houk in more than 2 years. The Marine is stationed in Okinawa, Japan.

Houk was greeted at the airport by his aunt, the two then drove to a restaurant to surprise his mother and the rest of his family.

“I am so happy to see my mom. She has no idea that I am here,” said Houk. “It’s surreal.”

Houk is home for 19 days, before returning to Japan.
