Hiker killed in fall from cliff at Ruffner Mountain in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham Police say a hiker has died after falling from a cliff at Ruffner Mountain Thursday afternoon.

Lt. Williston with BPD says the hiker was killed in the fall. 

Birmingham Fire heavy rescue crews are now working to recover the body. Birmingham Fire Capt. Watson says the fall was approximately 60 to 80 feet. 

According to Watson, the hiker was a man in his 30s who was reported missing about three hours ago.

Irondale Police say Ruffner Road at Ruffner Park is closed, and ask people to avoid the area.
