Help Clean Up Alabama’s Battlefields and Historic Sites


Thousands of volunteers around the country will gather on Park Day (April 2) to help clean up and restore historic sites and parks.

In Alabama, volunteers are needed to team up with the Civil War Trust to restore three Civil War landmarks on Park Day.

  • Fort Gaines Historic Site
    • Dauphin Island
    • Begins at 10 a.m.
    • Volunteer activities include painting cannons, weeding and sprucing up the fort.
    • Lunch will be provided.

  • Fort Morgan Historic Site
    • Gulf Shores
    • Begins at 8 a.m.
    • Volunteers will help with painting, board replacing and other maintenance.
    • Beverages will be provided.

  • Historic Blakeley State Park
    • Spanish Fort
    • Begins at 8 a.m.
    • Clear brush from an important area of the Civil War battlefield so that it can be better accessed and appreciated by visitors.

A local historian will also be on hand at each site to describe the historical significance. Volunteers will also receive a free t-shirt.
