Flags fly at half-staff in tribute for fallen officer

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Flags across the state of Alabama are currently flying at half-staff following an order coming from Governor Kay Ivey.

This is part of a statewide tribute to Birmingham police Sgt. Wytasha Carter, who was killed by gunfire last Sunday.

Carter was helping another officer with a break-in investigation when a suspect opened fire on them during a pat-down.

The flags will remain lowered until Sunday, Jan. 20.
