On June 10th 2018 the community is invited to an event to remember the life of Naomi Jones. The young woman was murdered in June of 2017.
The celebration will take place from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Marie K-Young Community Center located at 6405 Wagner Road in Pensacola.
Shantara Hurry, Naomi’s mother, sent a statement to News 5:
To whom it may concern:
Wednesday May 31st, 2017 is a day I will never forget. My life as well as the lives of my family and friends was changed within the blink of an eye. My oldest child and only daughter was taken from me by the hands of someone else. June is vastly approaching, and I would like for the community to help me celebrate the life of my child, just like we all came together for the various searches, and all the efforts put forth in attempting to bring Naomi back home. I am currently planning the very first annual Naomi Day Celebration. This day will include several activities for the kids, food, as well as community awareness so just maybe this won’t happen to another innocent child. Which brings me to the reason behind this letter. I am asking for anything you may be able to donate to make this happen for Naomi as I am a single mother and can’t do this on my own. We are in need of supplies such as but not limited to: bounce houses for the kids, beverages, hot dogs, hamburgers, buns, condiments, cutlery, paper products, as well as cash donations. This will take a community effort in order to make this day successful. No donation is to big or to small. The celebration Will take place on Sunday June 10th 2018 at the Marie Young community center located at 6405 Wagner Road. Please assist me in the effort of bringing our community together yet again in the name of Naomi. I will include my contact information of two ladies that are assisting me in making my dream a reality. Their names are Theresa (850) 324-8377, and Brandi (850) 483-9403. Please feel free to contact either them or myself with any questions or concerns regarding the celebration. Thanks in advance.
