Driver stuck by medical needle hidden under gas pump in Baldwin County

Baldwin County

UPDATE (01/24/20 1:03 p.m.) — Loxley PD will take the needle to DFS Monday with a special request for testing, as per DFS’s policy it usually does not accept needles.

Police spoke with the victim Wednesday night and he told them he was heading to the hospital. He has not returned any of their calls since.

Police have security camera footage that they are currently reviewing in hopes of finding the car that was at the pump before the victim.

UPDATE: Police have shared a picture of the needle with WKRG News 5:

STAPLETON, Ala. (WKRG) –A frightening surprise for a Baldwin County driver just trying to fill up their car.

Loxley Police say the driver was stuck by an IV needle that was hidden, taped under the pump.

This all happened Wednesday night according to police.

“When the victim reached for the gas pump handle they were pricked by what appears to be a hypodermic needle,” said Lt. Doug Phillips with Loxley Police.

Police have sent the needle off for testing. The customer has been treated as a precaution.

“I have no idea the reason or rhyme behind somebody wanting to do something like this is, but it’s a serious felony crime. The criteria behind this could mean a multitude of things. Number one, just in itself with nothing on the needle would be a felony assault,” said Lt. Phillips.
