FAIRHOPE, AL- You can smell the dead goats before you see them.
For riverfront property owners trying to remove the carcases, the stench is overwhelming.
Dead goats are washing up on the banks of Fish River near Polecat Creek. Homeowners tell News 5 they’ve seen at least 7 dead goats floating in the river since the weekend.
The dead animals smell and are covered in maggots. Many of the images we captured are too disgusting for television.
Property owners contacted ADEM and the Baldwin Co. Sheriff’s Office.
Some property owners say the goats were shot.
Alabama’s Rural Crimes Unit is investigating.
We were unable to track down the owner of the goats. Most of the dead animals have been removed from the river.
