MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) – Congressman Bradley Byrne is in the Gulf Coast for a series of Town Hall meetings.

His tour kicked off on July 30th, and continues Wednesday, August 8, in Mobile. The meeting will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Connie Hudson Mobile Regional Senior Center at 3201 Hillcrest Road in Mobile.

Congressman Byrne is not taking the Congressional August District work period off. He’s taking time to talk to the people he represents for his “Better Off Now” Town Hall tour.

“We’ve had good turnout, you saw we had good turnout in there,” said Congressman Byrne.

In the town halls, he is discussing why he says the American people are better off now thanks to a booming economy, stronger military, and safer communities.

He’s also answering questions from the community. In his hearing today, he answered questions from the community on healthcare, immigration, to the solution for congestion on I-10.

“Our bridge is moving forward, now we believe we’re going to start constructing on it by next summer. It’s a 4 year build, it’ll take us a long time, but I think it’s in progress and it will happen,” said Congressman Byrne.

Jim Mather was just one of the several people who go the chance to ask Congressman Byrne a question.

“I’m grateful for his making himself available,” said Mather.

He works with international people in the city, students. refugees, and immigrants. Immigration is a passion for him.

“I think it was the beginning of an ongoing conversation,” said Mather.

Mather says while he may not have gotten all of the answers he wanted, he knows he’s being heard.

“I give him kudos, I think he’s feeling the pulse of the community. It’s not just the questions, it’s also the feel, the vibe in the room. He’s very unusual, I’ve lived in several states, he’s making himself very available. I commend our Congressman for that,” said Mather.

This is all part of his “Better Off Now” campaign.  No reservations are required and the public is welcome to attend.

Congressman Byrne will be in Loxely and Spanish Fort on August 22. For more information and dates, click here.
