Mobile Fire-Rescue have released new information regarding the multiple vehicle fire on I-65 service road.
At approximately 11:19 a.m., Mobile Fire-Rescue Special Events units were dispatched to the area of East I-65 Service Rd N and Main Street for reports of a grass fire and multiple vehicles on fire. Additional MFRD fire suppression units were immediately dispatched to the scene to assist with firefighting efforts. Per Investigators, initial reports were that a single vehicle parked along the service road caught fire, which spread to grass nearby. As many as 7-8 vehicles parked along the service road began to burn as fires from the grass and the original vehicle continued to burn and spread.
Firefighters have recently extinguished all vehicle fires and grass fires. The cause of the initial car fire is still under investigation, but the owner attests to recent mechanical troubles. No fire personnel or civilians have been reported injured. No residences or businesses in the area were damaged in the blazes. Vehicles damaged range from moderate to total loss.
Several vehicles caught fire on Saturday afternoon.
At least 6 vehicles went up in flames on the north I-65 service road, near Prichard exit 8.
According to police at least 8 vehicles were damaged.
No injuries have been reported.
At this time it is unclear what caused the fire, but police on the scene say one vehicle may have sparked a brush fire causing multiple vehicles to go up in flames.
