The Alabama House Clerk says it’s likely the impeachment resolution expected to be brought Tuesday  will be sent to the House Rules Committee.

The 1901 State Constitution very vague about the impeachment process.

“There is a lot of uncertainty. We’ve never been down this road,” said Rep. David Sessions, R-Grand Bay.

If there is one person who has the best idea on how it will work its Chief House Clerk Jeff Woodard. He has been taking a lot of calls from House members.

A lot of house members are unclear and have been calling chief house clerk Jeff Woodard

“I do the best that I can to explain it to them what I have, but is not a lot,” said Woodard.

Woodard says the te constitution and procedural guidelines are vague at best.

“We have nothing in the rules of the house to address impeachment,” he said.

Rep. Ed Henry, R-Hartselle says he plans to introduce an impeachment resolution Tuesday. Woodard says unless 80 percent of house members want to immediately  debate and vote on impeachment, the resolution will go to the 15-member House Rules Committee. That committee could do anything from killing the idea to immediately sending it back to the house for a vote, or just about anything else.

“If they want to recommend something other than a straight up vote in impeachment they could recommend some sort

of investigative body or some other avenue that they want to take, whatever that may be,” he said.

There are three Mobile area house members on the Rules Committee  – James Buskey, Randy Davis, and Victor Gaston.
