Now making the rounds on social media, a post by Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon on his personal Facebook page. “It was sort of tongue in cheek but in reality, it’s serious business. Words have meaning.” He wants everyone who vowed to leave the country if Donald Trump became president to keep their promise and he has set up a Go Fund Me account to help them out.

“I want to raise ten million dollars to buy all the bus tickets we can find to send all the celebrities and athletes who don’t love this country to Tijuana, Mexico for a better life,” says Kennon.

His account is called “Don’t let the screen door hit you” and it was born out of frustration over what he calls the hypocrisy of it all. “The minute things don’t go their way they’re going to take their ball and go home. In this case take their money and go somewhere else and I just want to help them. That’s the kind of guy I am. I want to help them get out of town.”

The goal of the account, ten million dollars, and Kennon says what he doesn’t spend on bus tickets he’ll donate to local charities.

Reaction to the post have been mostly positive but some believe the mayor is adding to the problem.

“The responses mean nothing for me,” says Kennon. “I’m stating and standing for what I believe in and I don’t care what anybody thinks. But for the most part, it has been absolutely positive.”

Folks we spoke with see a bigger lesson in all this. “I think we need to learn to get along together,” says Bob Magnusen. “We’re all in this together. That’s what makes America great.”

“It’s a done deal,” says Chris Witt. “Just grasp it and try to support it.” Kennon believes that too but says the celebrities have a responsibility, “they need to apologize if they are going to stay in our country.”

So far $15 has been donated towards the ten million dollar goal. Kennon says he hopes the post goes viral.
