Woman's search for missing ring sparks fire on social media

Foley, AL (WKRG) - UPDATE 12:45 PM 7/2/18

News 5 called Palm Beach Tan in Foley for comment Sunday afternoon.  Here is the statement we received Monday afternoon.

On Saturday, June 30th, an incident occurred in our Foley, Alabama, Palm Beach Tan location in which a customer's personal property was left in a tanning room and has not been located or recovered.  The safety and security of our customers and our staff is our highest priority.   Our team is fully cooperating with the local authorities at the Foley Police Department and will continue to do so until the investigation is complete.  Because this is an active police investigation, we will not be making additional comments at this time and refer any media requests to the Foley PD.--email response from Palm Beach Tan spokesperson.

Kim Shelton says her ring went missing at some point during a visit to Palm Beach in Foley on Saturday.  She posted a picture of it to Facebook and the item has been shared more than 1,100 times as of 10 AM Sunday morning.  According to the post, Shelton says she left it on a shelf near a mirror while she was getting a spray tan but didn't see it since.

"At this point, I have no idea, we searched the room, the officer searched it’s nowhere because it wasn’t in there when my fiance’ went in there," said Shelton in an interview via video chat Sunday morning.  Shelton says the ring is an irreplaceable family heirloom that has decades of sentimental value built in. It belonged to her grandmother and her late-father gave it to her fiance to give to her.

"It’s really hard not having that with me, and it’s important to get that back at this point I feel like I’m at a dead end," said Shelton.  She filed a report with the Foley Police Department and is praying that the ring will turn up soon.  Hundreds of people have shared the post and shared their own stories of valuables lost to time or theft.
