Fairhope's first ever female police officer dies at 82

FAIRHOPE, Ala (WKRG) - Fairhope Police say the first woman to ever be an officer in the Baldwin County town has died at the age of 82. According to a Facebook post, "retired Sergeant Jean White lived 82 inquisitive and determined years."

According to the department, White got married at 16. But she convinced the school district to let her go back to school as an adult to get her high school diploma. She went on to get a masters in criminology and joined the force as an investigator in 1978. She served for nearly 20 years.

The department posted on Facebook,  "with respect for the tremendous commitment to the City of Fairhope, we honor Sergeant Jean White and extend our love and prayers to her family."
