Elberta 6th grader doodles for chance at $30,000

A 6th grader from Elbert Elementary is competing for a $30,000 scholarship, for doodling. That's right, doodling. Kendall Goodwin was chosen as Alabama's representative in Google's annual Doodle 4 Google contest. Her drawing could actually end up on the homepage of the incredibly popular search engine.

Each year there is a theme. This year it is "What inspires me." Kendall's baking inspired drawing, titled "Baking Bonanza", could make it if she gets enough votes.

According to a press release, "the best doodle from each state and territory was chosen by guest judges and Google doodlers. Those winning illustrations will now be put online in a gallery on the Doodle 4 Google site, and anyone using the website can vote for their favorite doodles. "

Voting begins Monday to choose the 5 national finalists, and one national winner will be chosen next month. Google says, "that winner will be featured on Google’s homepage, awarded a $30,000 college scholarship, $50,000 in technology for their school or the nonprofit of their choice and a trip to Google’s headquarters, among other prizes."
