There is plenty of sand, sun and surf but there is also a lot of red, white and blue. Versions of Old Glory being worn, wrapped or carried just about everywhere.
But do most folks know what they are celebrating? Some do and some don’t. So, between the sand castle building, wave crashing and grabbing a snack or two, a little pop quiz on what the stars and stripes really mean; How many stars? How many stripes? And what do those stripes represent? Most folks knew all the correct answers. Other’s weren’t as accurate.
For Garrett Welch visiting from Tuscaloosa, the Fourth of July has always been special. “Well, most of my family is in the military so I respect very much what the military does and this flag is a symbol of our freedom.”
A quiz on the beach didn’t lessen the celebration nor the privilege of living in the United States and being at the beach, especially on the fourth day of July.
