Fifty years ago, a very significant phone call was made, and it came from a phone in Alabama.

On February 16, 1968, the first 911 call was made from a phone in Hayleyville, Alabama.

Rep. Robert Aderholt, who represents Alabama’s 4th Congressional District, is very proud of that fact, since Hayleyville is his hometown.

The congressman tweeted a picture of the phone on Friday and said it would soon go on display at the Smithsonian’s Museum of American History.
