BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — They look just like lottery tickets, but when you read the fine print – you see the words “phone card.”
Lottery games are illegal in Alabama, so when we found the cards at a gas station – we started asking questions.
Our investigation is already getting results. Police and the district attorney’s office are looking into this.
We walked around and showed the cards to multiple people – all of them thought they were lottery tickets.
When we went to authorities, we were sent back and forth between various agencies. The closest we could get to a comment was the last opinion on “phone card game pieces” issues by the Alabama Attorney General in 1998.
It stated the cards are not considered lottery games if you buy the cards at a retailer, and you get a game piece once you mail something in.
