SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A military training exercise turned deadly on Wednesday after a West Virginia Army National Guard soldier died in a parachute accident.
Suffolk officials say first responders were dispatched to the Suffolk Executive Airport just after 2 p.m. for the incident.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue crews, as well as the Nightingale air ambulance, responded to try and save the man’s life, but officials say he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing and the National Guard says the soldier’s name is being witheld as next-of-kin is notified.
