Girl finds Megalodon tooth on North Carolina beach

WILMINGTON, NC (WFLA/WECT) – A girl on spring break went home with a treasure millions of years old.

Avery Fauth found a Megalodon shark tooth Monday while searching the sand near North Topsail Beach, North Carolina.

Her dad has been looking for one for more than 20 years and got Avery and her sisters interested in hunting for shark teeth too.

Avery said she was down by the water when she saw something in the sand and that when she pulled it out, everyone started screaming.

“We’re all kind of like jumping up and down and screaming really loud. And my dad didn’t believe us at first and I was Facetiming people and they said that we bought it,” Avery said.

“And so they kind of didn’t believe us. But then whenever I came back and showed them, they’ve said it was really cool.”

The Megalodon was the largest shark ever documented and went extinct millions of years ago.

The tooth could be up to 3 million years old.
