BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A Florida teen is accused of killing his girlfriend’s dog after she didn’t come home in time, the Sun-Sentinel reports.
Lawrence Chaz Graham, 19, of North Lauderdale, appeared in court Thursday to face several charges of animal cruelty.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office said Graham, who is an employee at Coconut Creek High School, was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly killed the Shih Tzu mix puppy
According to an arrest report, Graham sent his girlfriend a text that read “U got til 1030 if u not here by then I swear 4 God I’ll finnish Jordan off.”
Then he kicked the dog multiple times, slammed it to the ground, and choked it, according to the report.
“He then placed the dog next to the front door with a towel over it, flowers next to the dog, with the dog’s collar, and a note that read, ‘Coulda made it RIP Jordan,’” the report states. “He also wrapped an electrical cord around the dog’s neck to make it appear that he died by being choked with a wire.”
After the brutal killing, Graham texted his girlfriend, saying “If u really loved him [the dog] u woulda made it in time 2 save him.”
He is charged with six counts of animal cruelty for each separate act committed on the dog.
“This is a heinous crime that he did this to this poor dog that’s a year old. Also, I mean, it’s a small puppy he eventually ended up killing. Thank God she didn’t come home ’cause who knows what he would’ve done to her,” BSO Detective Sira Arroyo said.
Graham appeared before a judge Thursday and his bond was set to $15,000. His mother was in court as he faced the judge and said she had raised her son to do better, WSVN reported.
“Good morning, Lawrence,” his mother said. “After they told me what you did, you hurt me so bad.”
Graham remains behind bars at the Broward County Jail.
