TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – A tiny dog that was found tossed in a trash can is getting a new chance at life thanks to an animal shelter in Georgia.

According to a post on the Hart County Animal Shelter Facebook page, a light brown female dog, which appears to be a Chihuahua or a Chihuahua mix, was left inside a trash can outside of a welcome center on Interstate 85.

“She was freezing, wet, hungry and scared when someone heard her crying and found her in the trash can this morning,” the post said. “She is in the care of Lavonia Animal Hospital and getting the medical attention and love she deserves.”

The post continued, “She could have been stolen from a loving family, or the idiots who did this just didn’t want her anymore.”

The dog, which they’ve named Caroline, is now in the care of vets at the shelter.  The dog will be up for adoption once she is fully vetted.

Those interested in adopting Caroline can complete an application at hartcountyanimalrescue.org.

Anyone with information on the dog’s owner is asked to contact carolineHCAR@gmail.com
