Cruise ship quarantined over measles outbreak


(WFLA) – A cruise ship was ordered quarantined off in the Caribbean port of St. Lucia after a case of measles was confirmed in a crew member on board,.

Several news outlets report that nearly 300 passengers and crew members are on board.

St. Lucian authorities said the ship has been under quarantine since Monday morning.

Officials declined to name the ship involved but a St. Lucia Coast Guard Sergeant told the news outlet the vessel is named “Freewinds.”

“Freewinds” is the name of the 440-foot cruise ship owned and oeprated by the Church of Scientology. 

A doctor confirmed the crew member is in stable condition.
