Mississippi pastor “flies high”, goes viral for sermon entrance

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (localmemphis.com) – A Mid-South preacher is making headlines for his elaborate entrance to his sermon last Sunday.

Video of Senior Pastor Bartholomew Orr flying on a zip line over his congregation at Brown Baptist Church in Southaven, Mississippi, has now gone viral. The video sparked conversation and even some backlash.

Cell phone video on Facebook has more than 2.6 million views and has been shared thousands of times. The pastor welcomes all attention and reaction because he says it gets folks talking about Jesus Christ.

“We have the apparatus in for our Christmas production that happens next week, so I was like well okay, I’ll fly in,” Pastor Orr said.

He calls what happened Sunday, a God-orchestrated moment. He says the stunt seemed perfect for the lesson.

“The message that I’m preaching, I’m walking through the book of James, was all about being patient for the Lord’s coming is near,” Pastor Orr explained.

As members of the congregation posted the stunt on social media, Pastor Orr tells Local 24 News he didn’t expect the amount of attention online it would receive.

“Someone was telling me, one of my pastors, you know we are at 250,000 views. I’m like for what? What happened this day that’s different than anything else that we’ve been doing?” he said.

Comments flooded social media about the video, and a majority of them were negative.

One person said, “God don’t like ugly. This is blasphemy, only Jesus can ascend from heaven.”

Another person posted to Facebook and said, “Just when you thought you’d seen it all, wonder how much of tithes went toward funding the contraption for this circus act.”

“I love everybody because even the negative comments is helping to spread the message, Christ is returning, are you ready for his return,” Pastor Orr stressed.
