MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Mobile police are still searching for the person who shot a woman near Pleasant Valley Road Wednesday night, but they tell us they have a suspect in mind.
Police tell News 5 the 30-year-old woman is still in the hospital but has stabilized.
“It was all chaos,” said Charles Crawford.
Crawford lives off Angus Drive North. He sits out on his patio, watching his neighborhood. “We’ve never really had any problems like that around here,” he said.
Which is why he was surprised when he noticed two groups, of what he described as mostly girls, arguing and approaching each other.
“Some concerned citizens in the neighborhood called the police. That was the first time,” said Crawford.
Things calmed down for a minute, and the groups left. But, they returned. Crawford said there were several people in the groups, “maybe about 40-50 people.”
That’s when the arguing turned to violence.
“They had bats, sticks, iron pipes, you know, they were swinging randomly,” said Crawford.
He says at some point someone got a gun out of a car and fired several shots.
Crawford said he was disappointed to see the violence escalate.
“It’s not worth it, you know. Losing a life, especially a young person’s life, when they’ve got so much to live for in the future,” said Crawford.
