MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Mobile Police Department has ruled the death of a child as a homicide after receiving autopsy results. The 8-year-old child died in April at the Sandpiper Apartments.
The incident happened on April 6, 2018 when officers responded to the apartment complex at 4950 Government Blvd, after receiving a call of an unresponsive 8-year-old child, who had trouble breathing. When officers arrived, the child was pronounced dead by medical officials.
Investigators say the child had medical issues. There were also several other children in the apartment, as many as five, that were removed from the apartment. It is unclear if there were adults in the apartment at the time.
Mobile Police say homicide investigators started an investigation and the autopsy was conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
The Mobile Police have not released the results at this time, but say the investigation is ongoing.
