MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A group of alumni of the Alabama School of Math and Science made a plan to hound the school with calls and emails expressing their anger regarding how the school handled a sexual assault report from a student.
The alumni’s reaction is in response to a letter the student sent to parents that week outlining what happened from her perspective when she reported the rape to a staff member. News 5 obtained that letter, but are not releasing it to protect the student’s identity.
The letter claims the school did not immediately call police when the rape was reported. That is what the alumni we spoke with say upset them the most.
In a statement released Monday by ASMS, the school board says police were called, but the statement does not say when. We asked Mobile Police when they were called regarding this incident, but they have not gotten back to us yet.
The school will only communicate with us through an attorney. That attorney says at this point he does not have permission to speak in response to the student’s letter.
