UPDATE: (4:47 p.m.) Mobile Police identified the 16-year-old victim as Chavan Scruggs on Tuesday afternoon. Residents were still shaken up on Tuesday after Scruggs was shot and killed Monday night, his body left in Allison Street.
Yvonne Wright lives fewer than 50 yards from where police found Scruggs. She heard gunfire and before looking outside.
“It looked like a body laying there,” Wright said told WKRG. “And I said, ‘oh my God.’ It looked very small. And that’s when I saw all the police cars coming.”
Wright also saw a woman in the street.
“I heard the lady,” Wright said. “she was crying ‘oh Lord, oh Lord, my child, my child. I just don’t know how I would’ve felt if that was my child laying out there.”
Wright said in the ten years she’s lived there, it’s been a quiet place to live.
“There’s never any confusion here,” Wright said. “So last night I was in my kitchen and heard ‘pop,’ and I thought maybe they’re celebrating today.
