LaFrenier Memorial Scholarship

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The family of a Davidson High School student who died in December is working to keep his memory alive. During an awards ceremony Tuesday morning Anthony LaFrenier’s mom presented a scholarship in his memory to graduating senior Cora Potts who is enlisting in the Navy.

Anthony died from injuries sustained when the car he was riding in collided with a WAVE transit bus last May.

“Team Anthony” will be presenting the $500 scholarship every year to a Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps cadet.

“Something good can come out of something so terrible,” said Anthony’s mom Beth Jones. “We’re still grieving the loss of Anthony, but we’re going to continue his memory and thanks to that and the support of the community, we’re able to award Cora a scholarship that she will be able to pursue her future with.”

Team Anthony is working to become an official non-profit to raise money for the scholarship and also for awareness and treatment of traumatic brain injuries.
