MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A Mobile church is focused on the second coming of Christ. It’s called the Rapture Preparation Center and it’s located on Cottage Hill Road near Azalea Road. The Church’s testimony is not to scare but “prepare.” The church’s pastor, Stephen Shaw says, “I don’t think anybody would disagree with us that we’re in turbulent times. The second coming of Christ is evident.”
Pastor Shaw has been leading the Rapture Preparation Center since 2006. He replaced his father who led the church for nearly 3 decades before. Shaw and his late father strongly believe, “You have to make people aware of the times, the scripture plainly tells us when you see these things begin to happen, look up, lift up your head, and open your eyes-your redemption draws now.”
Shaw preaches and connects biblical prophecy with current world events. “Israel is our time clock. In the historical narrative of wars that are so close to Israel in their geographical proximity that can attack them, it’s just amazing.”
But he says societal behaviors are an even bigger indicator. “The Bible tells us perilous times will come, men will become lovers of themselves. I’ve never seen a more sensitive time, with people gravitating to themselves; not lending hand to their fellow brother, their fellow sister. I see such an arrogance and such a condescending nature that’s in the world today, even in the church.”
Church members say Pastor Shaw is preaching truth no matter how uncomfortable some may find it.
Francis Agnew says, “We know this is a sign of the times but we are a church that is concerned about people.”
Britney Shaw told News 5, “They’re trying to prepare you and that was a big part of why I chose this church.”
John Shaw says, “It’s not like I wake up oh, the rapture could come. But I have consistently lived a certain lifestyle so when I wake up, I say thank you Lord for waking me up this morning.”
Chapter 4, verse 16 of Thessalonians in the Bible reads; “For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God.”
Pastor Shaw says, “The day that you do not prepare is the day that it might happen.”
The Rapture Preparation Center hosts services in Mobile and Moss Point, Mississippi every Sunday. They have additional prayer services throughout the week.
