Plane lands safely at Brookley after losing steering in air

Mobile County

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — It was a scary few minutes at Brookley after several first responders were called to be on standby for a possible emergency.  Several units with the Mobile Police Department and Mobile Fire Rescue were called to the control tower at Brookley Field at about 8:30 Monday morning.

An incoming plane radioed in to say they had lost steering in midair.  Mobile Airport Authority Director Chris Curry said this is a standard response for this type of aviation emergency.  Luckily the plane was able to land safely and no one was hurt.  Because of the steering issue, the aircraft had to be towed off the runway.
