MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — A pedestrian was killed after getting hit by a pickup on Old Pascagoula Road early Sunday morning.

State troopers say the victim is 65-year-old Gordon Owen Odell of Grand Bay. He walked into the road near the intersection of Old Pascagoula Road and Grand Bay-Wilmer Road when he was hit by a pickup, according to authorities.

He was taken to University Hospital in Mobile where he died on Monday.

Kyt Avritt of Grand Bay was driving to the store with her husband, when they saw a man trying to flag cars down. That driver, according to authorities, is 51-year-old Keith Todd of Mobile.

Avritt sat with Odell until help arrived. She was devastated to learn that he passed Monday. She was also angry other cars didn’t stop sooner.

“Every one of those cars was a minute more that someone could have called” she said, fighting back tears. “That someone could have given this man a chance to live. And they just kept driving. So each one of those minutes, he would have had a better chance.”

No charges have been filed against the driver who struck Odell.
