MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Three young women are left without a mother after Selwondra Pugh was shot and killed Monday night. As they try to wrap their head around what happened, Pugh’s daughters want others to remember the wonderful woman she was.
She was known to her friends as Shay and we’re told the 42-year-old mother of three loved to sing. Instead of focusing on the way she died, her daughters want people to remember the way she lived. They say she had an impact on everyone around her
“She was always that person you could talk to,” said her daughter Sekwondria Dansby. “If you didn’t have a mother figure in your life, a lot of my friends looked at her as her mother figure. “She was just that mom that you would cling to. It just hurts for everybody to lose her. She was that person in our family.”
Her daughters say Pugh and Jason Cooley had been dating for three years. Police believe Cooley is the one who killed Pugh. Cooley mumbled there were “no excuses” as he was being taken to jail early Tuesday morning.
“I want to know why,” said Dansby. “What led to this point to take someone’s life? I just want my family to keep their heads up and stay strong. We’ll get through this.”
Cooley remains in jail awaiting a bond hearing.
