MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) – Mobile Police say they won’t be tolerating violations of the open-container ordinance downtown.

In a press release, MPD says it will begin strict enforcement of the ordinance on Friday, August 24th.  Drinking is allowed in the Downtown Entertainment District with conditions, but you can’t just bring your own booze. The drinks must come from licensed businesses and must be in plastic cups with logos from those businesses.

According to the press release, “this requirement is designed to ensure that the people coming downtown to enjoy the nightlife are customers of the licensee, and not simply bringing their own beverages from home.  Additionally, no open-containers on the streets and sidewalks of downtown are allowed after midnight.”
